Achieve

This is an image of happy children.

Hello, and welcome back! 2024 has begun, and we’re almost one month in. School has started in Australia, or it’s close. So, what would you like to achieve this year? Have you thought about it? Maybe you haven’t, or you’re still getting over the summer or winter vacation.

Here’s a list of possible worthwhile achievements to think about:

  • become a better reader

  • be a better friend

  • be a better sibling

  • improve at math

  • improve at spelling

  • improve at writing

  • improve a sports skill

Notice something about the list? Each item says something about getting better. It’s not about competing against someone else. It’s about challenging yourself to be the best version of yourself.

We are never too young (or old) to do that. Our brains love challenges and thrive on improvement. Achieving a goal releases lots of tasty brain chemicals (remember dopamine).

Try it this week–set yourself a goal. Start small by spelling one extra word correctly on this week’s quiz.
