Transforming Learning

This month, we’re banging on about transformational learning. It’s about shifting perspectives and capabilities. Rote learning relies on memorisation, but transformational learning enhances deep understanding and lasting change.

To transform as a learner, you need to engage in truckloads of critical thinking, problem-solving, and applying knowledge.

Five Aspects of Experiential Learning

The theory is influential because knowledge and skills are developed and applied in authentic contexts, resulting in a deeper understanding. Schooling in the early years relies heavily on experiential learning. Of course, it is not the only theory and, if you’ve been following this blog, you’ll know that children learn at different rates and under different circumstances.

Building Knowledge

You’ve watched children at play, right? They build worlds, invent dialogue, and establish rules.

In short, they do this:

formulate, form, put together, devise, design, invent, compose, concoct, contrive, work out, hatch; fashion, mould, model, shape, frame; forge, engineer, fabricate, manufacture, hammer out, thrash out.
